Subside considers the relationship between industry, community and place, documenting Silesia, one of Europe’s most polluted regions. Moving through the small mining towns of Imielin and Bytom, the work traces fractured landscapes, sinking homes, abandoned façades and the quiet persistence of those who stay. A polluted haze softens the outlines of buildings, while “Save Imielin” posters and school murals signal local resistance. The work examines the tension between economic necessity and environmental damage, reflecting a dependency that binds communities to an unsustainable future.
